The Highlight Diffusion Filter is an optical filter built into the camera, mounted in front of the lens.

With HDF off, you get the familiar GR look: high contrast, fine detail and edge‑to‑edge sharpness.

With HDF on, highlights are gently diffused and a slight blur appears towards the frame edges, giving a mellow, film‑like character.

Because HDF is assigned to the Fn (function) button by default, it is easy to switch visual style without leaving the moment. This makes the GR IV HDF a flexible tool for photographers who like to work quickly but still control the mood of their images.
